PERCEPŢIA RISCURILOR INDUSE DE INUNDAŢIILE PRODUSE
ÎN BANAT (APRILIE 2005)

ABSTRACT – The perception of flood generated risks produced in Banat (April, 2005). This paper represents a quantitative research based on a questionnaire designed and structured to emphasize the perception of flood generated hazards produced in Banat in April 2005. This study is based on the information obtained from the interview of 433 persons in November 2009 who live in the proximity of the inferior course of the river Timis, affected by the catastrophic flood of 2005.The questionnaire has 45 questions structured on several aspects referring to: identification data of the persons questioned, the level of experience, knowledge and information, the perception of the causes which generated the flood of 2005, the perception of the authorities’ implication in the prevention of the floods and in the minimization of the damages, etc. The floods in April 2005 in this hydrographical space and in other places from Romania have emphasized some weaknesses of the techniques used for the flood protection, and of the capacity to respond to manage the phenomenon. This study about the perception of flood generated risks has emphasized the vulnerability of human communities exposed to the risk of flooding expressed through their low capacity to absorb the results of the phenomenon and to recover afterwards.
