HIGH AND VERY HIGH AVALANCHE RISK DURING 2016-2017 WINTER SEASON

ABSTRACT. – High and very high avalanche risk during 2016-2017 winter season. The paper presents and analyze snow and meteorological conditions of 2016-2017 winter, which led to the estimation of high and very high avalanche risk in Bucegi and Făgăraş Mountains, the two areas covered by nivological program of the Romanian National Meteorological Administration. Meteorological and specific snow parameters measured everyday at the four meteorological stations within the nivologic program (Sinaia, Predeal, Vârfu Omu and Bâlea-Lac) have been studied, along with the estimated avalanche risk and the avalanche events that took place during the studied periods.
