FLOOD RISK ASSESSMENT IN THE TISA RIVER BASIN

ABSTRACT. This paper presents an assessment of the flood risk at Tisa basin level resulted from the activity developed into the Jointisza project and based on the national reporting documents for the 2007/60 EU Directive on assessment and management of flood risk. In the first part, a short presentation about the flood hazard and it management in Romania and flood protection infrastructures from the Romanian part of the Tisa river basin are offered. The used data and methods for identification/selection of significant historical floods, the elaboration of hazard maps at the Tisa river basin, the elaboration of flood risk maps and the methodology used for climate change impact estimation on flood risk are presented. In the second part of paper the significant historical floods and areas with important flood risk in Tisa river basin were identified. Also, the national flood hazard maps and flood risk maps for Tisa river basin, potential adverse consequences and climate change impact estimation on flood risk were presented.
