THE SIGNIFICANT FLASH FLOODS IN VIȘEU RIVER BASIN, ROMANIA. CAUSES AND EFFECTS ON THE FLOODPLAIN

ABSTRACT. - The significant flash floods in Vișeu River basin. Causes and effects on the floodplain. Vișeu’s river basin location and morphometry has offered, over the course of time, favourable conditions to the formation of different types of floods. Their increase over the last time due to climate change and chaotic anthropic activities has led to visible changes of the morphology of the floodplain. The present paper analyses the genetic factors, the significant floods and in particular, the impact of these floods on the floodplain of Vișeu river and its main tributaries, Ruscova, Vaser and Țâșla.
